Resilience skills at Burpham Primary School
Lead Happiness Consultant, Dave Keeling, loves a local gig, especially when the place name is ‘Burpham’ (near Guildford, if you like a reference point).
His mission was to do a 2-hour twilight INSET for the staff of Burpham Primary School on building their resilience skills using the Science of Happiness. He was also tasked with helping them find their oomph.
The objectives were:
- To reinvigorate a ‘fatigued’ staff
- Remind staff of why they do what they do and all the great things about it
- Re-build collaboration after working in bubbles.
Dave rose to the challenge by creating a fast-paced interactive session that explored, in a variety of ways, the 5 drivers of happiness, which are:
- Coping skills
- Positive relationships
- Confidence
- Support
- Achievement and success
The 2 hours flew by as Dave developed ideas in and around happiness including the formula for intelligence; the art of collaboration; risk-taking; and psychological safety.
He also touched on why achieving grade 3 in tap and jazz proved that no positive effort, no matter how small, is ever wasted. A point Dave was quick to repeat - if you can’t repeat whilst at Burpham, when can you?
