Bringing Out the Best in Every Child with Swiss International School
Switzerland is best-known for fine chocolate, cheese, snow-capped mountains and the infamous Swiss watches. So when Sarah Brown had the chance to deliver our Bringing Out the Best in Every Child keynote with the Swiss International School, she jumped at the chance…
Only to realise it was virtual.
She popped her case and passport back (not for the first time this year) and got prepared for a full day’s virtual session.
The day started at 7am UK time, and was fun and engaging from the start. It was jam-packed full of activities, with break out rooms to allow for discussion. There was plenty of learning and laughter, as well as lightbulb moments.
The session was divided into 4 key areas - with time for breaks and lunch too. Everyone was encouraged to get out in the fresh air at lunch (they had beautiful sunshine) to release those positive neurotransmitters.
The outcomes of the day were:
● To understand the importance of conscious inclusion and the impact on positive learning
● To learn how our biases impact the way we learn and teach
● Understand growth and fixed mindset in relation to conscious inclusion and bringing out the best
● To recognise how to adapt learning and teaching style to be inclusive and bring out the best.
● Developing ways to bring humour and play into learning to engage all.
● Learn how the Pygmalion effect impacts learning and what can be done about it
The day ended with group work - with presentations from each group on what they had learned and what actions they were taking away to implement. It was safe to say that the presentations went well and each group had several actions they were keen and excited to put into practice.
Here’s some of the feedback Sarah received after the session:
“Thanks so much to Sarah. She is a very uplifting and positive person.”
“Excellent in every way!”
“There were so many ideas and good practices to implement in the classroom.”
