Happiness Fund winner Elimu breaks down barriers
Elimu is an organisation which exists to break down barriers. It connects young people with businesses, opportunities and mentors to widen their access to role models and reduce the racial wealth gap.
Focused on helping underprivileged and ethnic minority young people, it provides mentorship, networking opportunities, career advice, access to affordable technology and business training to nurture young talent from systematically marginalised communities so they can bring their full selves to work, thrive and progress in the workplace.
We love what they do, which is why Elimu is the recipient of a £2500 Happiness Fund grant. The money will be used to produce content for the Elim Launchpad programme, which is delivered in a hybrid format, with participants expected to watch online content on the charity’s social learning platform and then apply that learning to their business ideas during weekly in-person workshops.
The online content combines masterclasses and interviews with role models across our community.
Elimu founder, Lynette Nabbosa, said: “Thanks to the Happiness Fund, we have recruited three young people to interview three entrepreneurs and three young people to co-design the topic guide for our masterclasses so that the content will address questions that are most relevant to them.
“By funding this work, the Happiness Fund is benefitting young people from systematically marginalised communities, particularly those who face disadvantages based on their race and/or ethnicity. The role models they connect with and learn from through the Launchpad programme have similar lived experiences to them so that they can share the lessons learned on their journeys to success and, more importantly, what they have learned about preserving and prioritising their wellbeing in their career journeys.
“Those young people who will be working with us behind the scenes and in the interviews will gain practical experience that they can add to their CVs, and all programme participants get to connect with our role models. The added bonus of this fund is that we have been able to pay a young Black entrepreneur from the creative industry, Aaron Imuere, founder of Poetic Photos, to capture, edit and publish all this invaluable content. Thank you so much, Laughology!”
