International Day of Happiness was established in 2012 by the General Assembly of the United Nations. Its aim? To advocate happiness by eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, and protecting the environment.
Here at Laughology, we’re behind anything that promotes these values. We wholeheartedly believe in making the world a better place. However, we’re not sure if the true meaning of International Day of Happiness has landed. Like Christmas, it’s been hijacked and turned into a gaudy bauble that shines brightly temporarily but is then packed away and forgotten about for the rest of the year.
Hang on a minute, we hear you cry. You’re Laughology! Don’t be a fun-sponge! Surely Christmas and International Day of Happiness help us remember to do good stuff, right?
Yes, they do. But as custodians of the spirit of sustainable happiness, we create happy cultures and communities year-round, building realistically happy workplaces based on relationships, values, and doing business for good. But always accepting that some days are tough. And that's the important part. Life is pants sometimes. It isn't always rainbows, unicorns and the Spice Girls on the radio. But with the right foundations, we can work through the iffy bits.
B.C (Before Covid), companies paid ‘funsultants’ to design happy workplaces and supplied table football, computer games and scooters for their people. They mistook short-term pleasure activities with real values and behaviours that help with long-term life satisfaction and wellbeing - a.k.a. the happiness sweet spot.
Happiness at work is complex. There are no quick fixes. There’ll be days when people struggle, but that’s okay and that’s where good managers come in. They play a bigger role than people realise. Relationships with management are the top factor in job satisfaction.
So, what can we do? As always, Laughology is here to help! With research-backed practical tips to help you create happy cultures - playing a role in equality, supporting the planet, and bringing happiness all year round.
This webinar will explore:
- What you can do virtually and face to face to build happy cultures
- How the role of a manager is changing and what this means
- Techniques to support individuals and teams virtually and face-to-face
- How to get the best out of your people all year round and look after their wellbeing
