The 23rd of November is a very special day. Not only is it Lead Happiness Consultant Dave Keeling’s birthday (belated cards/gift vouchers still gratefully accepted), it’s also the day he delivered men’s mental health awareness training for SSP UK Ltd – a British multinational contract foodservice company.
Entitled ‘Manchat’ (see what we did there), the objective of the quick-fire session was simply to encourage men to talk about mental health and well-being.
The session therefore explored and encouraged discussion in and around
- Some facts and myths surrounding mental health
- The mental health continuum – a guide to spotting where people are in regards to their mental state, wellbeing and what to look out for
- Tips on how to start having more open and honest discussions – instead of asking how someone is, asking them how they feel from 1- 5 – HINT: you’re more likely to get an honest answer
- Statistics that highlight why talking about men’s mental health is so important – did you know that the biggest reason that men don’t talk about mental health is due to embarrassment?
- The 4 S’s – Spot, Stop, Support and Signpost – a structure for helping those around you who may be slipping from thriving to struggling.
The session was interactive, fun and full of advice – and at only half an hour, Dave still had plenty of time to blow out his candles and open his pressies.
We’ve got some free mental health and wellbeing resources to download – so do take a look!
