Explore our new ‘Snapshots’ – mini case studies showcasing how we help organisations create places where people like to be.
Last year, Laughology partnered with Chetwood Financial to roll out our trademark programme, “Big Chats Little Chats” (BCLC). This initiative aimed to help managers and leaders have meaningful conversations that drive development and performance.
We delivered BCLC to over 60 managers at Chetwood Financial, with sessions held in The Northwest and London. Laughology’s top experts, Stephanie Davies, Dave Keeling, and Kerry Leigh, led the training, which focused on three key modules: creating the right environment, growth mindset for performance conversations, and solution-focused thinking with FLIP It Thinking to build resilient teams.
The programme’s success was evident in the boost to managers’ confidence levels. Confidence in conducting development conversations soared from 65% to 82%, while overall confidence across all topics increased from 69% to 79%. This uplift was seen across the group, enhancing managerial capabilities and fostering better conversations and engagement. Attendance rates further showed the programme’s impact and success, with face-to-face attendance across all modules at an impressive 96%.
Qualitative feedback from managers and leaders reinforced these positive outcomes. Managers reported practical, actionable tools that transformed their approach to team interactions and problem-solving. One manager shared, “The introduction of ‘little chats’ has revolutionised team catch-ups, leading to more efficient and supportive team dynamics.” Another highlighted how psychological safety activities provided deeper insights into team members, enhancing conversations and connections.
The growth mindset module also made a significant impact, shifting conversations from transactional to warm, growth-oriented discussions. This change helped teams embrace challenges more constructively and fostered a culture of continuous improvement. The ABC model for feedback was particularly noted for enhancing feedback quality and promoting a forward-looking optimism.
FLIP It Thinking emerged as the most popular and impactful module. Managers used it to shift focus, language, and break unproductive patterns. The “circle of control” tool was described as a “game-changer,” helping teams regain focus and control in challenging situations.
Overall, the feedback was that Laughology’s programme significantly enhanced positive conversations at Chetwood. These outcomes reflect the programme’s robust design and delivery, with Chetwood continuing to use the techniques with their managers and as part of their training.
