The effects of mindfulness have been found to be beneficial in a wide range of settings. Over the past decade, training in mindfulness—the intentional cultivation of moment-by-moment non-judgmental focused attention and awareness—has spread from its initial western applications in medicine to other fields, including education.
The positive effects of mindfulness for learning when implemented over a period of time have been seen to:
- Increase attention
- Increase executive function (working memory, planning, organisation, and impulse control)
- Decrease ADHD behaviours—specifically hyperactivity and impulsivity
- Reduce conduct and anger management problems
- Increase emotional regulation
- Increase self-calming
- Increase social skills and social compliance
- Decrease anxiety in general and text anxiety in particular
- Increase self-esteem
- Increase quality of sleep
Our mindfulness INSET training sessions can be delivered with teachers and children. We can also ensure teachers are equipped with resources to continue mindfulness practices back in the classroom.>
