Staying positive in challenging times with Birmingham City Students Union

Staying positive in challenging times has been difficult for many workplaces and organisations.

Recently, Kerry Leigh was asked to work with Birmingham City University’s Students Union (BCUSU) to help them develop strategies to tackle the new term with confidence.

BCUSU is a one-stop-shop for the students of the university they serve, providing advice, support and events.

Their work is diverse and demanding and experiences within the team have varied during the pandemic – some were furloughed and some were not. But all have been working from home most of the time until recently, doing their best to keep the students afloat.

To help them be in the best mindset to do this, Laughologist Kerry Leigh introduced them to the FLIP it Thinking model to help them feel positive about what’s ahead (even when it’s unknown). She also gave them some tips and tools to deal with the inevitable challenges the new term will bring.

People in the session commented on how great it was to get together online, have a laugh and really connect. All whilst learning something that will benefit the whole team, and ultimately the students, in 2021-22.
