Forget dull interviews with lukewarm tea and questions about your “biggest weakness.” At Laughology, we do things differently. Play is at the heart of everything we do — and the science backs us up. So, our latest recruitment day for wannabe Laughologists looked less like The Apprentice and more like Britain’s Got Talent.
We crammed a bunch of brilliant hopefuls into one room and watched the magic unfold. Our value of Knowledgeable Together means we want people who can build on ideas, not just chuck their own into the void. So, seeing how they collaborated was a key part of the day.
The morning kicked off with Stephanie Davies, CEO and Head of Happiness, sharing our Laughology values: playfully curious, knowledgeable together, people people, and brave rebels. Then candidates had to invent brand-new products and pitch them on the spot. Cue rapping, dancing, and more sales patter than a shopping channel at Christmas.
Next, each hopeful ran their own five-minute activity. We wanted to see how they worked a room, mixed play with psychology, and tackled workplace and leadership challenges — all while being thrown in at the deep end. And because we’re big on honesty (and a little bit scared of our own spin), we invited the brilliant Selina Brown to spill the beans on life as a Laughologist — uncensored.
By the end, it was decision time. Cue our best Simon Cowell impressions as we whittled ten down to five. And yes, it was tough. The standard was sky-high, the energy electric, but decisions had to be made.
The final five were then asked to design a real client workshop — proposal, pitch and all. Think Dragons’ Den, but with fewer suits and more neuroscience.
We had hundreds apply for the role, so getting this far was no small feat. Soon we’ll reveal who made it through and joins Team Laughology. Watch this space.
