Growth Mindset and Resilience with East Midlands Rail (Transport UK)

Since January of this year, Kerry has been spending time with trainee Guards and Drivers for East Midlands Rail as they embark on their learning journey. The course is demanding as there is a lot to learn to become a brilliant Train Driver or Train Guard.

Often, trainees are people who have changed careers, and it’s been a long time since they have been in a ‘classroom’ environment, which can sometimes bring up unhelpful self-beliefs about a person’s own ability to learn or cope.

The purpose of Laughology spending an afternoon with trainees is to equip them with the best mindset and resilience to be open to the learning and the challenges that may present, hence Kerry sharing Growth Mindset and FLIP-it Thinking Skills in these sessions that have been very well received:

“Kerry was amazing. I was very close-minded at first and didn’t know what to expect, but she absolutely blew my mind. She was amazing. Her energy and charisma made the session so enjoyable, and I now have a growth mindset to things.”

“Learnt a lot, whilst keeping it fun and worked great as a team building exercise as well”

“Kerry was absolutely fantastic in her delivery and engagement. I am not a fan of classroom-based activities, but she kept everybody engaged and involved. A real asset to the organisation.”

The groups have all connected well with the use of humour and bonding activities, which has led to them being vulnerable with each other about their perceived strengths and weaknesses. They have also embraced challenging and supporting each other, ultimately developing their growth mindsets and resilience, and not taking themselves too seriously along the way!
