Growth Mindset with Accenture

Over the past 24 months, there’s been a fair amount of change. If you’d announced these changes were happening most people would have hidden under a rock. Our auto-response tends to be ‘I like things the way they are’. However, we had no choice. We’ve had to adapt to survive in our jobs, our personal lives and generally the way we live.

Covid has shown us that, under pressure, we humans are adaptable and versatile. You just need to look at how creative people got with toilet paper and masks to see how versatile we truly are. We’ve also learnt new ways of working from home, honing and developing our tech skills. It’s shown us that sometimes if you just put your mind to it, we make it happen.Accenture is a company that’s used to change. They support other organisations to adapt and look at better ways of working to support efficiency. But even the best can benefit from a bit of growth mindset thinking from time to time. So, Accenture asked Laughology’s Head of Happiness, Stephanie Davies, to run an upbeat, interactive webinar on how we can learn from our recent experiences and use these to grow ourselves and others even more.

During the webinar, Stephanie explored with the team how to help people when they’re stuck by using curious questions. We also explored the importance of widening your circle of advisors, which means going beyond the people you normally go to for advice. We tend to go to people who think like us, therefore we create an echo chamber. Thinking about going to people who disagree with you and being open to hearing their opinions, encourages you to think beyond your own belief.

We explored these techniques with some real work examples, helping the Accenture team leave the session with some ideas to put into practice.
