Compassionate leadership and inclusion at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust invited Laughology along to their Annual Conference in Stevenage. The focus of the conference was compassionate leadership and inclusion, and how to get from good to outstanding.

The Trust recognises that their leaders are instrumental in creating an environment for everyone to flourish, therefore the day was a full day of inspirational speakers and workshops including  Laughology’s Truly Human Leadership delivered by our Head of People, Programmes and Playfulness, Sarah Brown.

The workshop was delivered to approximately 70 leaders. There were lots of conversations around the impact of leaders and how developing a greater understanding of how they make people feel definitely helps. This was brought to life by remembering those good (and not-so-good) bosses they may have experienced.

The session was interactive and allowed discussions around the skills and behaviours required to be a leader who’s remembered for the right reasons. Sarah asked them some thought-provoking questions about their personal brand and whether anyone would buy it. What would people say about them in the toilets and would they want to stay and listen?

The session was fun and interactive and also covered:

  • What is social and emotional intelligence
  • How to be more self-aware for Truly human leadership
  • What it means to create an environment for others to flourish

The session concluded with the message that truly human leadership is about inspiring, coaching and empowering people to believe in their potential and make the impossible possible in work and life. It’s not about following a script or even knowing all the answers. You don’t need god-like powers to be a great leader, just an understanding of what it means to create environments where people flourish

People left the session with at least one key action to help them on their leadership journey. And the good news? From the feedback below, it looks like we may be invited back next year…

“I am writing on behalf of my Trust (HCT) to say a big thank you for your comprehensive and informative presentations at our Annual Leadership Conference in October. The feedback has been excellent. Looking forward to welcoming you again in the future.”
