Positive communication and relationship building at Ben and Jerry’s

It’s fair to say that Lead Happiness Consultant Dave Keeling doesn’t have a sweet tooth and yet if there’s one sugary food stuff out there that can make him rethink his entire list of adult culinary decisions, it’s ice cream.

So imagine how his heart skipped a beat when he was cordially invited to present at Ben and Jerry’s UK, home to a collection of business leads and leadership team members from across Europe.

After he’d parked his car in the bay called Sherlock Cones (!), he was ushered into the barn-like headquarters to deliver a 3-hour session on positive communication and relationship building.

The objectives were to create a fun and informative environment – like many employees, this was the first time some of the participants had either met or been in a room with each other in over 2 years, so excitement filled the air and people were desperate to catch up.

The session covered the following, in a variety of engaging ways: 

  • Thinking and communication styles
  • Growth  mindset / metacognition
  • Active listening skills
  • The amazing brain and what impacts confidence
  • Magic questions for a different perspective
  • The power of laughter and humour as an engagement tool
  • The true art of collaboration

The session allowed great conversations to be had and for the group to bond over learning, playing and laughing. Dave left with a goody bag consisting of two tubs of ice cream, some vouchers, a notebook, a brand new scoop and a smile that’s still not off his face.
