New European legislation enacted today has banned people from laughing in the workplace.
The legislation has been introduced in specific sectors in an effort to improve productivity and compete globally with other nations deemed more serious.

The new ruling affects businesses such as law firms, clinics and funeral parlours and comes into force at the end of May. The policy will be policed by a unit of trained serious enforcers who will covertly inspect workplaces using entrapment techniques to test whether workers are susceptible to laughter.
Businesses and organisations who repeatedly flout the rules can face fines of up to €10,000.
